Vacation Home Rental Agency
Established in 2015, Big Fish Rentals began managing just a handful of rentals in Myrtle Beach. Since that time they have rapidly grown and currently manage approximately 100 short-term rentals, with the majority of their portfolio consisting primarily of oceanfront one and two-bedroom condos. Most of their rental properties are within the following resorts: Avista Resort, Camelot Resort, Oceans One Resort, and Bahama Sands. Although they haven't been in business as long as some of the other vacation rental management agencies in the area, Big Fish Rentals has definitely established itself as a reputable and successful up-and-comer.

I booked with Big Fish and stayed from 08-11-16 to 2024 at Compass Cove in room 855. The refrigerator was broken, with a screw inside of it, and there were many items on top of it. The front door inside the condo, between the bedroom and kitchen, was also broken. When I got off the elevator in front of the door, there was a strong smell of urine. I stayed for five nights with a family of four. The carpets need to be cleaned and the furniture should be updated. The pictures do not look anything like the condo, so please beware... They is not enough parking space.. Please know you are getting just what you pay for...... The oven was not clean from a previous rental.

This company RUINED my vacation I booked for my family. They list on VRBO and air bnb, I thought I would save money and book directly through their website which was a big mistake. The photos in their listing did not accurately represent the condo that we walked into at compass cove. It was FILTHY, the resort smelled like weed, there were ant and roach traps left out all over the room, the furniture was torn up and dirty, the kitchen was gross, it was so disappointing. We IMMEDIATELY messaged them when checking in and it took them an hour to get back with us, they don’t answer phone calls. We asked for a new room, they told us they had nothing, so we let them know we could not allow CHILDREN to stay in filth and it left us running around for hours at night with toddler looking for a clean place to stay and spending another $600. They offered to send a cleaning person but that would have done NOTHING, it looked like a years worth of filth, dirt, and mold. They must not ever deep clean. We asked for a refund bc the pictures were not accurate and the room was filthy since they could not offer us another room and they REFUSED that night. The next morning they messaged us after we booked a new place wanting to know if we would like moved to a new room as if we didn’t speak to them the night before. Complete SCAM, they won’t refund money for their own fake listing photos and filthy rooms because we didn’t pay for insurance??? Travel insurance is for us if we cancel or if an emergency happens, NOT for their mistake and dishonesty. I want to know if Julie would stay in a filthy room like she offered my family? I’m sure her standards are higher than what her company offers. They are not updating listing photos and stealing money from hard working people.

Complete false advertisement!! The suites are not upgraded, we were there for less than 24 hours and checked out. All rules were followed and even received a compliment from the host Julie. Days later I received an email saying that two pillows were missing. The linen was damaged and torn and I would not be receiving my deposit, these are false accusations! In fact I have proof, and also examples of how the “upgraded suite” was prepared for us upon arrival! Other than being right on the beach, please do not book with this company. It is a complete scam.

If I could leave a negative one star I would. This company is all about overcharging and making sure they are not providing a fun place to stay. We over cleaned our room and still was charged $50 for towels stained. So if u make a mess in any ways and try to clean with their towels you will be charged. The email we got from them prior to our trip made us all scared to even walk in the room. There was so many rules and dos and donts. Hell if u didn’t leave the tv the same way , you would be charged $150. It’s a huge scam and they out to get more $. If anyone wants the email we got prior to our stay. Message me. Worst experience ever!!

Did not have a good experience at all!! Me and my cousin had booked a room through big fish at the landmark in Myrtle beach. Upon arriving we noticed the room was very hot and uncomfortable so we went to turn the air on low with the fan on full blast before leaving that evening for dining. We came back to the room still being hot. I got in contact with Julia only for her to say they had just checked the air that morning and it was working…. Sooo, to say I’m lying about it is funny. After showing her pictures of the unit and that I had everything set right she then said that someone would be in the next day to fix it. That night me nor my cousin got any sleep because of how hot and uncomfortable it was. The next day I asked if she could let us know when the maintenance person would be there so we could have the room cleaned up for him to get through, never received a text. We went to breakfast, and then visited a few shops. Came back to our room and it was an absolute disaster per the pictures I added!! I was very disappointed and also confused as to why I never got a text letting me know when the maintenance would be there. He had came in and moved our personal belongings which I did not appreciate, left a mess in the room, and he was nowhere to be seen. I sent pictures to her, but still no explanation on when he would be back. Me and my cousin began to get ready for the beach and while changing into our swimsuits with just one knock he came back in, talk about embarrassing. He then came in to finish up his job and REPLACE the entire air unit that supposedly was working the day before, lol. To say that we didn’t get to relax in our room was an understatement. Paid for 2 nights and only slept good for 1, if that. Most likely won’t be booking again.

Do not rent from this company. You will be scammed out of your security deposit for damages they claim you did. I will take a lie detector test, will they? I sent a photo of damage in a refrigerator and they claim the cleaners have photos taken before I came showing the damage was not there. I have filed a claim on the Better Business Bureau. All negative reviews on there, take look before you use this scam company. I will get this resolved if I have to go to the licensing board in SC.

We were falsely accused of taking pillows, damaging the cooktop and breaking a lamp. We didn't notice any of this when we checked in. The company charged us $700 for theft and damages that we did not do. Please read all of the reviews, BBB complaints, and their unrealistic 80 rules before booking with this company. They will try to take advantage of you. Truly a disappointing and stressful experience. If you want to enjoy your vacation and feel relaxed when you get home, book with another company.

Upon arriving and expecting my door code to be text at 4:00 sharp, I had to text them to ask to send…it was sent at 4:29 with me just standing outside the door with a full luggage cart! Went into Beach Cove Unit 1020 at 4:30, quickly got things in the room, in the refrigerator, never opening the curtains or turning on any lights. Went out for evening. Returned at 9:30, went straight into bedroom and went to bed! The next morning…..THIS IS WHERE IT BEGINS…. Pulled curtains back and HOLY CRAP, after stepping on sticky spots on the carpet, the following pictures will tell the tale!! There has been a Dispute for our 8 day stay filed with our Credit card Company. We tried several times to ask for even a Partial reimbursement, and all we get is “Our Team has been notified and is working on it”! Will keep you all posted on how this turns out!!

I signed an agreement to stay through Big Fish rentals which states the standard procedures, once the agreement was signed I was expected to send a copy of my credit card front and back, my license from and back, sign a paper with my signature on it and hold that paper up along with my license and credit card and take a picture holding all of these items. It sounded like a scam to me. I have never had to provide this kind of information before. My booking could not be completed until this was complete. So I didn't not complete the process, but was still charged due to them having a non refundable booking. Save your money...do NOT book through this site. I wish I had read the reviews a little more carefully before booking.

BEWARE!! SCAMMERS. This company is horrible and will try to scam you for false damages. Myself, mother and 2 kids stayed at a property that was not only not that clean but also had missing blinds, stained towels/comforter and shower drain not properly draining. I let the company know this the first night. We stayed 2 nights and were barely in the room. Came home to this company requesting reimbursement of over $1400. Stating we broke the fridge, broke the table and stained a pillow. Mind you the pictures they send are tiny and don't even load. Every pillow we used had a pillow case on it and there were 0 stains when we left. The table is cheap and a piece of the laminate popped up like it was previously glued or tapped by someone. We didn't even sit at the table! And then the fridge we used a total of 4 times to get bottle water out of. The picture they sent is close up inside the fridge reading other reviews they use false pictures. Not even sure that is the fridge in the condo. I have rented several properties from other companies and have never had any issues like this. We should've known they were shady when last minute(literally less than 24 hours before our trip) they send an email stating we have to sign and pay a security deposit. We will never stay in one of their properties ever again.

Advertising on Airbnb as host "Julie" is deceptive as it is a property management company not an individual owner. After we paid in full we received a contract from Big Fish Rentals with a never ending list of rules and petty fines. Before and during our stay I was bombarded with emails reminding me about towels, trash, not using luggage carts, etc. All with warnings of fines. The unit was OK, but with a lot of cheap uncomfortable furniture. Sure enough the day we checked out I received a message from Airbnb stating I was being charged for stained bed linens. We didn't actually sleep on the item they claimed. In any case isn't that what their extremely high cleaning fee is for; to wash their poor quality sheets? Stay away from any property listed by Julie or Big Fish Rentals.

Property Owners = DO NOT USE BIG FISH PROPERTY MANAGEMENT! Attention Property Owners: If you let Big Fish rent your property, be prepared for them to rent it for any price. As an example, my property is valued at over $400K and they rented it for $44 ONE NIGHT! Yes, $44.00 / FORTY-FOUR dollars. When I inquired about WHY, my written response was "It's better than it sitting empty at $0 is our thought process". WHAT!?!?!?!?! My dissatisfaction runs deep from their HORRIBLE guest experience customer service to the HORRIBLE customer service they gave me. Every encounter I had with them left me extremely disappointed and I cancelled my business relationship with them within the first 30 days! What does that tell you? Also, they manage the Airbnb/VRBO site however if a guest contacts them for ANY reason, they then contact you on what to do. The nickel and dime charges really add up as well and take away from your profit. It doesn't matter of you have 1 rental or 30 in one month, they charge you the same $ for what they call supplies. For one rental I paid $29 for trash bags, dishwasher pods and laundry pods. Housekeeping fee. Serious DISHONESTY here. They charge your guests $225 per stay. They then rebill you $215 per stay. When questioned, I was told this is good and this way you make $10. WHAT?!?! I then questioned why my condo was renting for between $44-$100 a night, no clear explanation was given. No way you can make any money using this company. I am now running my own Airbnb/VRBO as a SUPERHOST out of this property. I interviewed 3 housekeeping companies. The fee to clean my place was between $125-$150. Again, when profit margins are already low, it's easy to figure out who they are really in business for and it's NOT the property owner. I have everything above proven in writing and I have also opened a Better Business Bureau case. Now that I FINALLY received my last payment from them from the 1 October rental, my goal is to save someone the SAME PAIN I went through. Chad the owner is the laziest nonresponsive person you will ever deal with and his co-owner/bookkeeper Julie is filled with amazing stories and excuses. Their business model is flawed on so many levels. The importance of maintaining high standards in customer service is vital in this market and this company needs to retake that course or CLOSE DOWN!

We had a great trip in the summer with no issues so we tied to book again. Their website gave me an error message and said "try one more time". I did just that. Again, error and no confirmation. I check my bank and have two charges. No confirmation still. Reached out, customer service person was pretty short over text and said they have no confirmation and kept directing me to my bank. Basically too bad for me. My bank says the company should be able to reverse it but again, Big Fish is no help at all. Now I will have to dispute both charges and wait for that process. Now we can't afford to book a trip because have paid TWICE for a trip with no confirmation and nothing to show for it. This was a surprise trip for my son. So disappointing. It is so frustrating and I can't believe how unhelpful they are even with screenshots of the charges from my bank. Very short responses and they clearly don't care that my hard earned money is gone. I'll never book with them again. Ever.

Absolutely the worst! Do not stay with big fish rentals! They will take your deposit even if you did no damage. Make sure you take pictures and video as we did thank goodness. Our lawyer says this isn't the first time this has happened. Robbing families or trying to. Shame to have to go through a lawyer to avoid being scammed.

Owners are liars. Beware of cameras in unit. Owner sent me a picture of my service animal in our room. Picture was taken without our consent. Owners trying to black male me into not reporting them to Better Buisness Bureau. Condo was disgusting and thats why owners are acting this way towards me. Because I called them out on there lies.

The co-owner Julie made a false claim that we damaged her sheets in the room and sent a request for damaged sheets AFTER she asked me to give her a 5 star review. We didn't damage the sheets and the photo she uploaded on Airbnbs platform was completely black. The reviews on Airbnb warned about this and said to take precautions and document everything upon arrival and before check out, which we did. Furthermore, Julie asks for a damage deposit after the booking is confirmed- against Airbnbs policy- and waits until 1 day prior to email outside of Airbnbs platform. Other than the hosts deceitfulness, the condo, pool access and location was awesome. I won't be going back to Big Fish Rentals anymore though.

We arrived at our unit. As soon as we opened the door the unit smelled horribly like urine, must and mold. We walked around to find dirty linens, musty old towels in the bathroom, smelly dirty carpets and messy filthy closets. My 7 yr. old daughter said her allergies were bothering her and said to me "mom we can't stay here is gross". The entire property in general is dated and not kept up very well; stains, rust, water leakage, mold. I would definitely not have let my daughter go in the pool. We left the property immediately and have been battling Air BNB and Big Fish for a partial refund and since we were told the property was re-rented- and no one will budge!!!! DO NOT BOOK HERE WITH BIG FISH RENTALS!!! "Julie" has never one called us nor attempted to be a decent human being. Instead we get texts telling us there is no refund and they are collecting double rent. BIG FISH IS A DISGRACE.
